Orange High School
Parents & Citizens Association (P&C)
Orange High School has an active Parents & Citizens Association (P&C) that contributes significantly to the life of the school and the many opportunities that are offered to students. The P&C is made up of a dedicated core of parents and carers, who meet to discuss and plan how best the P&C can aid the school's current and future needs. It is a community of parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, teachers and staff as well members of the local community who are working together to provide opportunities for the benefit of our children.
Meetings, Membership and Attendance:
OHS P & C meets at 6.30pm on the second Wednesday of each month during term time in the Music Centre, next to the staff carpark. The Annual General Meeting is held at the March meeting each year.
The meetings provide a forum which enables parents to voice their opinions, discuss options and initiate change and through which the school can obtain input into the policies and procedures used to effectively run the school. The meetings held are informative and include a report from the Principal. In addition guest presentations are held on issues that are of interest and concern to parents. Items such as curriculum changes, drug and alcohol awareness, excursions, bus travel, school safety and welfare have been covered at these meetings.
Anyone attending a P & C meeting can ask that a subject be addressed during General Business.
As the need arises, activities involving the broader school community are held that require participation from students and parents to make them successful and enable individuals to get involved in school.
Being a member of the P & C enables you to attend meetings of particular interest and cast votes directly affecting the direction of an outcome. Membership of the P & C is $2.00 pa.
Fundraising
Substantial financial support is just one way in which the P&C assists the school. This is achieved, in part, through fundraising activities, including the canteen. In addition Orange High School P & C administers the fund. This is a trust fund which was set up as a result of to support a number of school and community organisations in the local area. These funds contribute towards the purchase of educational resources and equipment, and to improvements within the school's grounds.
How have P & C funds helped in the past?
We have provided funds for a variety of resources for the school. These include Sports equipment, Computers and Technology, Literacy and Numeracy resources, Playground seating, Music programs, Signage, Student Diaries and support for students attending representative activities.
How does becoming a member help my child?
As well as being personally rewarding, volunteering your time can show your child the value of community work and invoke a sense of community spirit. Supporting your school by taking part in discussion and keeping informed with activities within the school will help in the directions of the school community. And of course your child directly benefits from the resources and programs the P & C funds provide and support within the school. Despite what they may say to their peers, most students are happy to see their parents participating in school activities
